West Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chairperson Mamata Banerjee
today expressed gratitude to the Congress, BSP and SP for their solidarity and support to
her in the wake of Election Commission of India’s invocation of Article 324 snipping
electioneering for Bengal and removing State Home Secretary and ADG,CID, ahead of the
final and seventh phase election on May 19.
Hours after ECI’s invocation of Article 324 on Wednesday evening curtailing election
campaign time by 19 hours ending at 10 PM tonight and removal of Principal Home
Secretary Atri Bhattacharya and ADG,CID, Rajiv Kumar, Trinamool Congress supremo
Ms Banerjee alleged that the unprecedented move was taken under the directive from
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP president Amit Shah.
While State Chief Secretary Moloy De has been asked to look after the Home
Department until May 19, the last phase poling for nine Lok Sabha seats in and
around Kolkata and neighbouring South 24 and North 24 Parganas, IPS officer
Rajiv Kumar, who was earlier removed from the post of City Police Commissioner,
has been asked to report to the Union Home Department in New Delhi by 10 AM
on Thursday.
” Thanks and gratitude to Mayawati, Akilesh Yadav, Congress and others for
expressing solidarity and support to us and the people of Bengal, ” Ms Banerjee
wrote in her Twitter account.
” EC’s ( Election Commission) biased actions under the directions of the BJP
are a direct attack on democracy, ” Ms Banerjee said adding ” People will give
