Godrej Agrovet Limited (GAVL), a diversified Research and Development focused agribusiness company, has announced the launching of ‘Hitweed Maxx’, a herbicide that controls most of the major weeds of cotton.
The indigenously developed and patented cotton herbicide, would give the crop weed-free growth period of 25-30 days thereby translating into superior weed control and low cost of weed management as compared to conventional methods, the company claimed in a release here on Thursday.
Due to low awareness about nuances of technology and reliance on manual/mechanical weed
management, marginal farmers struggle with low productivity, the company said and added that the growth of weeds during the early stages of the crop poses a major problem since they compete for vital nutrients.
As a result, the crop yield could reduce and might not meet the farmer’s expectations.
Hitweed Maxx is completely safe on cotton crops and it checks weed competition during the critical period of crop growth and effectively controls both broad-leaved as well as narrow-leaved weeds and results in higher productivity, the agri company further claimed.
Company Managing Director Balram Yadav, said, Hitweed Maxx is a one-shot solution for controlling all major weeds in cotton crop leading to a higher productivity and efficient weed management.
The use of Hitweed Maxx eliminates mechanical or manual weed management and enables cotton farmers across India to adopt High-Density Planting System (HDPS), Mr Yadav said,
Hitweed Maxx is effective under all planting systems including high-density planting system, where the plant population is kept relatively high, resulting in higher productivity and enhanced profit per acre, he added.
Hitweed Maxx will be available in all cotton growing pockets across India — Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, M.P., Maharashtra, Gujarat, Odisha, A.P., Telangana, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. (UNI)
