A tribal boy who saved another boy from drowning in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district was awarded under the Jeevan Raksha Padak Award on Tuesday.
The award was conferred to Khrawboklang Kharlukhi of Mawryngkeng village at a felicitation programme held at the Deputy Commissioner ‘s Office of East Khasi Hills district.
It was on March 25, 2017 that Khrawboklang Kharlukhi saved Class-I student, Rolandroy Lawai from drowning in Umnamlang river which falls under Mawryngkneng Community and Rural Development Block.
The Award which comprised of certificate, medal and a cash of Rs.1 lakh was handed over by East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Bhagotia.
The Jeevan Raksha Padak Award is awarded for meritorious acts of humane nature in saving the life of a person in incidents like drowning, accidents, fire incidents, electrocution, landslides, animal attack and rescue operation in mines.
