Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday unveiled a multi-crore package to usher in development in Bijepur, the assembly constituency which he contested and won besides his traditional Hinjili assembly seat in the recently concluded assembly elections.
The package includes pucca houses for households having kutcha houses, piped drinking water and irrigation projects, setting up skill development centres and ITI and building of road network. The chief minister will review the implementation of the projects in the package every two months.
Patnaik has not yet decided which seat he would retain and from which seat he would resign. However, political observers feel he may retain the Hinjli seat. Patnaik took oath as a member of the state assembly. As per the rule, Patnaik has to vacate one of the seats within 15 days of taking oath.
Announcing the package for Bijepur, the chief miniter said about 34,000 eligible households having kutcha houses in Bijepur assembly constituency would be provided with pucca houses. Besides, two mega pipe water supply schemes will be executed at an estimated cost of Rs. 1,120 crores covering a population of eight lakh in 505 villages of Bargarh district. All the villages of Bijepur constituency would be provided with piped water supply with household connection in next two years, he said.
Patnaik said a new mega lift project under Parbatigiri Mega Lift Scheme would be taken up in Buromunda gram panchayat of Gaisilet block with water source from the Ong river at an estimated cost of Rs.48 crores. The project will provide irrigation to 3,000 acres of agriculture land.
Patnaik said that 29 river lift projects and about 3,000 deep borewell irrigation projects would be taken up in Bijepur assembly constituency. Infrastructure works including water supply, street lighting, roads, drainage, town hall, community centers, kalyan mandap, stadium, market complex, park and office buildings will be taken up in Bijepur and Barpalli notified area councils (NACs). The package for each town will cost Rs.40 crore and the works will be completed within next two years.
The chief minister said three new revenue inspector circles would be set up at Guderpali, Talpali and Dangabahal under Gaisilet tehsil. A new primary health centre, Patnaik said, will be opened at Talpadar in Bijepur block. Adequate number of doctors will be posted in existing health institutions within a week to provide healthcare to the people.
The package also includes setting up of a government ITI and two skill development centres at Gaisilet and Barpalli, construction of four new road development projects covering a length of about 80 km and a bridge project to strengthen the road network in the area. The road network project will cost about Rs.82 crore.
In order to provide quality power to farmers, the package includes construction of separate agriculture feeders totalling 60 km of 33 KV line and 120 km of 11 KV line. Besides, 50 new distribution transformers will also be set up to improve the voltage level.
