As part of the government’s efforts to reach out to the Opposition before the first session of the 17th Lok Sabha, Union ministers in the newly sworn-in Narendra Modi government on Friday met UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at her residence in New Delhi.
Union agriculture and rural development minister Narendra Singh Tomar, parliamentary affairs minister Prahlad Joshi and his deputy Arjun Ram Meghwal met Gandhi and were is believed to have discussed the coming Parliament session.
“UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi was called on by Union ministers Arjun Ram Meghwal, Prahlad Joshi and Narendra Singh Tomar at her residence,” the Congress tweeted along with the photograph of the meeting.
Joshi also met leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad and DMK leader TR Baalu, sources said.
In the recently-concluded Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has won 303 seats, while the Congress faced a rout a second consecutive time winning only 52 seats.
The Parliament session of the newly-elected 17th Lok Sabha will commence on June 17 and end on July 26. The Union Budget will be presented on July 5.
Newly-elected MPs will take oath on the first two days and the election for the post of Lok Sabha Speaker will be held on June 19. The joint session of Parliament will be addressed by President Ram Nath Kovind on June 20.
Meanwhile, Gandhi was re-elected as the leader of the Congress parliamentary party, recently.
