Expressing grief over the death of more than 100 children from suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome in Muzaffarpur and surrounding areas, Jamui Lok Sabha MP Chirag Paswan on Tuesday said a committee should be constituted to probe into the tragedy and ascertain causes and treatment of the disease.
Interacting with media on the Parliament premises, the Lok Janshakti Party MP said, ‘Every year children are dying, but the real cause of this disease is not yet known. It has been also discussed in Parliament once but it is necessary to work out the complete information about the disease and its preventive measures.’
‘The government should set a fixed time frame for it and ensure that the causes and treatment of the disease can be ascertained within the time limit,’ he added.
Mr Paswan hoped that the situation in Muzaffarpur will improve after Chief Minister Nitish Kumar pays a visit.
Asked that who will ultimately take the responsibility for the children’s deaths, the Jamui MP said health is a state subject and evaded the question on why the Chief Minister is going so late to take stock of the situation.
