External Affairs Minister Dr Subrahmanyam Jaishankar Krishnaswamy on Monday took oath as member of the Rajya Sabha.
The 1977-batch Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer took oath in English following which he greeted the Chairman and other members present in the House.
Dr Jaishankar, the former top diplomat, was elected to the Upper House from Gujarat on Saturday when the by-election was held for two seats in the state.
He has been appointed as External Affairs Minister in the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led Government’s second term.
During the first term of the Modi Government, Dr Jaishankar was appointed as Foreign Secretary.
