Karnataka Governor Vajubhai R Vala, who has invited BJP leader B S Yeddyurappa to form the government today, has given one week’s time to prove his majority in the Legislative Assembly.
According to official sources, the Governor, while inviting Yeddyurappa to take oath of office at the Glass House in Rajbhavan this evening, asked him to prove his majority in the house before July 31.
After disqualification of three members form the house under the Anti-defection law by the Speaker, the effective strength of the 225-member Karnataka house had came down to 222, This includes one MLA from BSP and another nominated MLA, who has the right to vote.
At present, BJP has strength of 106 MLAs including the support of an independent member. The Congress party and the JD(S) have a strength of 64 and 34 respectively excluding rebel MLAs, Yeddyurappa is likely to prove his majority during floor test. (UNI)
