Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan today requested the Union Tourism Minister Prahalad Singh Patel to include Sun temple in konark and the Jagannath temple in Puri in the iconic tourist sites.
In a letter to Union Tourism Minister, Pradhan sought his personal intervention for the inclusion of these two temples in the iconic tourist sites keeping in mind the paramount historical, cultural and religious importance of the sun temple and Jagannath temple for the people of Odisha.
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman while presenting the 2019-20 budget has announced the plan for developing 17 tourists sites across the country into world class tourist destination and to serve as model for other tourism sites.
Pradhan said, Sun temple in Konark and Jagannath temple in Puri are holiest and attractive tourist destinations due to their historical, cultural, religious and architectural importance.
He said, while the Jagannath temple is the ceremonial home of Odisha‘s most revered deity and the unifying beacon of Jagannath cult, Konark temple, the 13th century marvel is acknowledged as the zenith of Odishan architecture and recognized globally as a world heritage site attracting millions of tourists.
