Irate mob today roughed up Baliapal police station Inspector in charge Prabhukalyan Acharya when he went to pacify the villagers protesting against death of a minor boy working in a roadside dhaba.
A 15-year old boy working in a local dhaba was found dead under mysterious circumstances. The local villagers who had earlier alerted the police about illegal activities going on in the dhaba, today took to the street and blocked the road.
Mr Acharya who went to the area to pacify the local villagers faced the wrath of the public who assaulted him. The IIC was rushed to District Head quarter Hospital and undergoing treatment.
Balasore Superintendent of Police B Jugal Kishore along with other senior police officers rushed to the area. Two platoons of force were deployed in the area to prevent further of law and order problem. Villagers alleged that in recent past several crimes including murder occurred in the area due to ineffective policing.
Although locals had alerted police about the liquor is being sold and other illegal activities going on in the dhaba, the police did not take cognizance of the issue.
The boy hailing from Uluda village under Baliapal block was engaged in the dhaba near Idco hospital square barely a kilometre from the police station.
He was found dead hanging in a rope from ceiling today morning by the other co-workers of the dhaba. The police and the family members of the deceased boy were informed about the incident. The boy’s family members alleged that he was murdered and then hanged.
In the meantime, hundreds of locals ransacked the dhaba and blocked the road by burning tyres. The agitators, mainly women alleged that the IIC Acharya did little despite their appeals to contain the criminal activities in the area.
While Acharya was trying to pacify the agitation in the melee he was thrashed by some people.
In the meantime, dhaba owner absconded before police could reach out to him, said sources. A senior police officer said “ At the moment we are trying to pacify the situation and the situation is turning in to normal. Further probe would be made about the incidents,” he said. The police sent the body sent for autopsy.
