Former captain Kapil Dev and Sourav Ganguly have been listed among the guests and awardees in the year-long centenary celebration of Quess East Bengal as ex-India skipper Baichung Bhutia unveiled jamboree by lighting the traditional lamp at
the club tent at Maidan here today.
A large colourful procession was taken out by the officials and club fans from the house of one of the founder members Suresh Chandra Chowdhury at Kumartooly in north Kolkata to club tent with torch ( logo of the club) to mark the beginning of the year-old celebration. Before shifting to present premises, East Bengal players began their field work from Kumartooly maidan in north Kolkata.
Red and Yellow was formally founded August 1, 1920. but on this day Suresh Chandra Chowdhury conceived the idea, which fructified four days later and born East Bengal.
EB has decided to confer Bharat Gaurav award to 1983 World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev and felicitate former India skipper Saurav Ganguly on August 1 to mark the foundation day at Netaji Indoor Stadium when chief minister Mamata Banerjee will grace the occasion.

The Red and Golds along with their kit sponsor Kaizen Sports conceptualized the new jersey keeping in mind the design of the oldest ever East Bengal home jersey of the club which could be traced. It was worn in the year 1925 or 1926.
