Congress member Manish Tewari on Wednesday raised the issue of death of Cafe Coffee Day owner V G Siddhartha’s death in Lok Sabha and maintained that there ought to be an elaborate probe into the circumstances that led to the businessman’s death.
Raising the issue during Zero Hour, Tewari said it has come to light that one of the reasons for the businessman’s suicide could be the possible harassment meted to him by the Income Tax officials. “I want to request the government that this is a serious and sensitive matter,” the Congress MP said. Speaker Om Birla, however, disallowed him to refer or quote contents of a purported letter that is in circulation.
“Will it be proper to raise or quote the letter and the contents in it till the authenticity of the letter is probed?,” the Speaker told the Congress member from Anandpur Sahib in Punjab. Tewari said while the probe on the suicide would be done definitely but the matters pertaining to conduct of Income Tax department and officials too was a serious issue.
Raising the issues during Zero Hour, among others, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey demanded that the time has come for the country to have a uniform civil code in the country. Another BJP MP Dilip Saikia from Assam expressed concern that the NRC exercise in Assam has excluded many Hindu citizens and said the government must take immediate steps on the matter.
The body of V G Siddhartha, who went missing since Monday evening, was found early morning from Netravati river in Mangaluru in Karnataka on Wednesday morning.
