Priyanka likely to visit UP in August

With an aim to strengthen the party cadre at the ground level in Uttar Pradesh, Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who is interacting with the local district level leaders on a regular basis in New Delhi, is likely to visit to the state, by the end of this month.

According to sources, Ms Vadra will meet workers in each division of the Eastern UP and take their feedback and suggestions, to pick up prominent and popular faces, to lead the district level committees. With an intention to revamp the organisation from the roots, the Gandhi scion has been meeting selected workers separately in the national capital, since the beginning of July, to discuss district wise strategies. On Monday, she held one-to-one meeting with half a dozen leaders from Lucknow, whose names were forwarded for selection of the District Presidents in Lucknow.

So far, she held similar meetings with at least two districts of Eastern UP. “This exercise will continue for few more days,” sources added. They said the workers, who are meeting her in New Delhi, are being given forms, to record their suggestions.
”Based on the workers’ feedback, the Congress leader is taking personal notes,” said a party worker, who recently met Priyanka. Ms Vadra was set to visit UP in the beginning of this month, but due to Sonebhadra and later Unnao rape survivor’s accident and pending decision of selection of new Congress president, she postponed her visit.

Earlier last month, Priyanka had visited the Sonebhadra district, to meet the kin of victims of the firing incident.  A high voltage political drama unfolded, after she was detained and taken to Mirzapur district, where she spent a night with party workers.
