External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Thursday paid a courtesy call on President of Nepal Bidya Devi Bhandari at Sheetal Niwas here.
Dr Jaishankar on Wednesday arrived here to co-chair the fifth meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission. Nepalese Foreign Minister Pradeep Kumar Gyawali and Dr Jaishankar co-chaired the meeting wherein both the leaders took stock of the entire gamut of India-Nepal bilateral relationship. Among other programmes, Dr Jaishankar and his Nepalese counterpart witnessed the handing over of a cheque of INR 80.71 cr which is a part of Government of India commitment of Rs 500 cr towards strengthening road infrastructure in the Terai Region of Nepal. Four road projects are ready for inauguration. The Nepal-India Joint Commission was established in June 1987. Its meetings were held alternately in Nepal and India. The last meeting of the Joint Commission was held in New Delhi in October 2016.
