The council of ministers in a meeting last night has decided to launch LAKSHYA, a special scholarship scheme for UPSC aspirants for cadre service after clearing preliminary exam, said law minister Ratan Lal Nath.
He said this is for the first time in last 10 years; five UPSC aspirants have cleared prelims but some of them have been facing problem in undertaking preparation in Delhi because of poor support from the family. In Earlier, occasions it was found that many students could not write main exam because there was no support for them.
“Tripura is the only state in Northeast from where least number of IAS, IFS, IPS, IRS, IES and IIS cadres are there in the administration even after 47 years of attaining statehood. The students of Tripura are equally meritorious and talented like other parts of the country but could not able to penetrate in the all service cadres yet due to poor support system. We want to erase the mental blockade,” Nath said.
He pointed out that Tripura government would provide scholarship of rupees one lakh to each of the UPSC aspirant after clearing prelim exam whose annual family income is up to Rs 10 lakh. The scholarship will be given for two attempts besides, providing them free fooding, lodging and transportation facilities in Delhi while preparing for the final exam.
“Tripura has produced hundreds of world renowned doctors and engineers who have been serving with reputation across the globe but yet to produce civil servants of all India cadres. Since, our boys are working NASA like institution at commanding level, I don’t believe children of Tripura has dearth of knowledge and talent except good exposure and complex of inferiority but we want to erase it,” Nath asserted.
While embarking into the mission for ensuring quality education right from the school, the state government from last year has started sponsoring meritorious tribal students for civil service coaching in the top class institutions of the country. Also, government has planned to extend support system for the meritorious students under various program to build their career, he added.Nath further stated that the cabinet has also agreed to provide 1.68 acre of land for setting up National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) here for which Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in 2017.
