The government on Monday compulsorily retired another 22 senior officers over corruption and other charges and CBI traps.
”The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has compulsorily retired another 22 senior officers of the rank of Superintendent/AO over corruption and other charges,” according to sources here. It is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s address to the nation on Independence Day, wherein he said, ”Some black sheep in the tax administration may have misused their powers and harassed taxpayers, either by targeting honest assesses or by taking excessive action for minor or procedural violations.
”We have recently taken the bold step of compulsorily retiring a significant number of tax officials, and we will not tolerate this type of behaviour,” the Prime Minister had said. As many as 27 high ranking IRS officers, including 12 officers from CBDT, were compulsorily retired in June this year.
The CBIC has sacked officials from a total of 12 zones, including Nagpur, Bhopal, Chennai, Bengaluru, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Meerut, Mumbai, Bengaluru Customs, Mumbai Customs Zone II and Chandigarh. The officials, who have been sacked, include KK Uikey, SR Parate, Kailash Verma, KC Mandal, MS Damor, RS Gogiya, Kishore Patel, JC Solanki, SK Mandal, Govind Ram Malviya, and AU Chhapargare, all Superintendents in Bhopal. S Asokaraj, Superintendent Channai; Deepak M Ganeyan, Superintendent Bengaluru; Pramod Kumar, Superintendent Delhi; Mukesh Jain, Superintendent Jaipur; Navneet Goyal, Superintendent Jaipur; Achintya Kumar Pramanicik, Superintendent Kolkata; VK Singh, Superintendent Meerut; DR Chaturvedi, Superintendent Mumbai; D Ashok, Superintendent Bengaluru; Leela Mohan Singh, AO Mumbai Customs Zone II and VP Singh, Superintendent Chandigarh, were among the officers, who were also compulsorily retired, sources said.
