At least 16 people were killed and three others injured when a truck overturned on two tempos on the national highway 24 here on Tuesday.
Police sources here said the incident occurred at Jamuka roundabout under Roza Police station area when the speeding truck fell on the two tempos carrying passengers. Among the dead were three women and rest are male.
Of the injured, the condition of two is stated to be critical. The deceased were yet to be identified. The truck driver has been arrested. Further details are awaited.
The accident caused a massive traffic jam on the entire highway.
Meanwhile, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his grief over the death of such large number of people in the accident. He has directed the district officials to provide all possible medical treatment to the injured and compensation to the deceased families. (UNI)
