Assam Public Works (APW), the non-governmental organization, on whose PIL the National Register of Citizens (NRC) was taken up by the Supreme Court, today said that they will again move the Apex court for complete reverification of the citizen list and termed the final NRC list as ‘flawed’.
“ Congratulations to the saviours of illegal intruders as today they have been successful in making them legal citizens of India and Assam,” Abhijit Sarma, APW president said.
Sarma said his organization will move Supreme Court demanding complete reverification of the final list and cost audit of the entire process.
“More than Rs 1600 crore has been spent on the entire exercise, there should be an audit,” Mr Sarma said adding software giant Wipro provided the entire technology for the citizens’ list updation process, which is also responsible for the ”flawed” NRC as the data entry operator employed by the company across Assam in various districts ”indulged in entering illegal migrants’ names in the records.”
“Our repeated pleas for necessary orders were never heard by the court. We demanded re-verification of inclusion of names of illegal migrants through family tree or any other ways in draft NRC in Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Chirang, South Salmara, Goalpara, Bongaigaon, Barpeta, Nalbari, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Darrang, Udalguri, Sonitpur, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Morigaon, Nagaon, Hojai, Golaghat, Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi districts,” Sarma said.
More than 19 lakh applicants have been left out of the final and updated National Register of Citizens (NRC) for Assam, which was published today.
Out of 3.30 crore applicants, over 3.11 crore names were included in the final list of the citizenship document. (UNI)
