Pakistan is likely to slash petroleum prices from Sept 1 — cutting the price of petrol by Rs 4.59, local media reported on Saturday.
The prices of high speed diesel, kerosene oil, and light diesel would be lowered by Rs 7.67, Rs 4.27, and Rs 5.63 per litre, respectively. The new respective per-litre prices of petrol, high speed diesel, kerosene oil, and light diesel would be Rs 113.24, Rs 124.80, Rs 99.57, and Rs 91.89.
Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Special Assistant on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said in a tweet that the benefit of lowered global oil prices would be directly offered to the people.
The second year of ‘Naya Pakistan’ would bring good news for the people, she added.
Terming it a practical step, Dr Awan further said, “Instead of taking the price-cut gain for itself, the people-friendly government will directly pass the benefit of lowered oil prices in the global market to provide relief to the people.”
Earlier on July 31, the PTI government had silently increased the prices of petroleum products up to 10 per cent and that too without issuing any official statement. (UNI)
