Low pressure to trigger rain in Odisha, govt alerts collectors for a possible flood

The Odisha government today issued advisory and asked the district collectors to keep the administrative machinery fully prepared to meet any possible flood/ water logging situation in the event of intense rainfall following a low pressure.

As per the special bulletin issued by India Meteorological Department today , a low pressure area is very likely to develop over north & adjoining westcentral Bay of Bengal during next 48 hours and is likely to become marked there after.

The Collectors have been asked to make advance arrangements to evacuate people from vulnerble locations to safe places and provide adequate food, safe drinking water, lighting, health and sanitation facilities at the shelters and relief camps.
All the district emergency operation centre will operate round the clock and update the situation to the state emergency operation centre from time to time.

Meanwhile, the MET has issued yellow warning to seven districts (Malkangiri, Koraput, Raygada, Kalahandi, Gajapati, Nawarangpur and Kandhamal )on September 1 where rainfall is very likely to occur at isolated places over these districts.
Similarly yellow and warning has been issued to eleven districts and seven districts on September 2 next respectively where heavy to very heavy rainfall very likely to occur at isolated places.

Squally weather with gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph likely along and off south Odisha coast and westcental bay of Bengal and adjoining northwest bay of Bengal.

The sea condition will be rough to very rough and the fishermen are advised not to venture into the the sea along and off south Odisha coast and westcentral adjoining north bay of bengal on September 2 an 3.
The fishermen, who who are already in deep sea, are advised to return to the coast .(UNI)
