Rajeev Ram of USA, partnering Samantha Stosur of Australia defeated Kirsten Flipkens and Edourad Roger-Vasselin of France 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 in the mixed doubles of the $ 57.24m US Open at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center here.
The third seeded pair will now face sixth seeded Demi Schuurs of Netherlands and Henri Kontinen of Finland in quarter-finals. Schuurs/Kontinen disposed of the challenge of Nennnifer Brady and Denis Kudla of United States of America 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) 10-8.
It may be recalled that Rajeev Ram, who partnered Venus Williams were defeated by fellow Americans Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Jack Sock, 7-6 (3), 6-1, 10-7 in Rio Olympics. Rajeev Ram is son of Indian parents from Chennai.
Jamie Murray of United Kingdom and Bethanie Mattek-Sands of USA beat second seed Gabriela Dabrowski of Canada and Mate Pavic of Croatia 2-6, 7-5, 10-4 in the mixed doubles quarter-finals.
