India will take up with the United Kingdom the issue of fresh protests that erupted outside building of the Indian High Commission in London. According to sources, the government is ascertaining details and will take up the matter with the United Kingdom.
On Tuesday, repeating for the second time, protesters smashed windows of the Indian High Commission and even broke a window pane during slogan shouting protest. “Another violent protest outside the Indian High Commission in London today, 3 September 2019. Damage caused to the premises,” said a tweet from Indian High Commission in London. Earlier similar protests were reported outside the Indian High Commission on August 15.
Responding to the incident and tweet by Indian authorities, London Mayor Sadiq Khan condemned the violent protests, saying it was “unacceptable”. “I utterly condemn this unacceptable behaviour and have raised this incident with @metpoliceuk to take action,” he tweeted. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had on August 20 taken up the matter of protest on August 15 with his British counterpart Boris Johnson.
“Prime Minister Modi also drew attention to the challenges posed by vested interests pursuing their motivated agenda, including by violent means. In this context he referred to the violence and vandalism perpetrated by a large mob against the High Commission of India in London on the last Independence Day of India (Aug 15). Prime Minister Johnson regretted the incident and assured that all necessary steps would be taken to ensure safety and security of the High Commission, its personnel and visitors,” an MEA statement has said.
