A low pressure area over central coastal Odisha and its neighbourhood is likely to trigger very heavy rainfall in some coastal districts of Odisha from tonight. Besides the low pressure area, which has been persisting for the last two days, a cyclonic circulation also extended up to 7.6 km above the mean sea level over the same area, Director Centre for Environment and Climate Dr.S C Sahu said.
The heavy rains in some of the coastal districts, expected from Thursday night, might continue till Friday, he said adding that heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur in the districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jajpur, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur and Koraput district.
Nuapada, Balangir, Boudh and Sonepur districts will also witness rainfall between Thursday till Sunday. Under the influence of the system, light to moderate rainfall was expected over most parts of the state during the four day period, Dr.Sahu said. (UNI)
