High Commissioner, People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Syed Muazzem Ali, has stated that to make Tourism Sikkim and North Bengal easier, aVisa and Emigration Facilitation Centre would be soon set up in Siliguri.
Besides that, he said once the Motor Vehicle Agreement with India gets materialised, the regional ties would enhance. BBIN MVA, the Motor Vehicle Agreement between Bhutan-Bangladesh-India –Nepal, a regional connectivity module envisions energy trading, besides the road and air connectivity. He expressed hope that in that case, State’s Hydropower would be a means of a strong partnership between Sikkim and Bangladesh.
High Commissioner Ali showed interest in air connectivity here and asked about its status. He showed keenness of Bangladesh in establishing air connectivity between Dhaka and Sikkim.
Air connectivity would have mutually beneficial tourism prospects for Sikkim and his country, keeping in view the increasing number of tourists between India and Bangladesh during the past few years.
Around 50 per cent of Bangladeshi tourists visit India for Medical Tourism, so this would also benefit them, Sikkim and North Bengal.
Governor Ganga Prasad mentioned Organic produce of Sikkim. And expressed hope for a potential partnership, with enhanced trade with Bangladesh in different sectors including processed organic agricultural products, tourism, textile and Organic products. ( UNI)
