Bhubaneswar, Oct 21 (UNI) Odisha government today decided to make Jagadguru Shankarcharya the manager of Puri Gobardhan Math, excluding it from the Hindu Religious Endowments Act 1951. The state cabinet chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik approved a proposal to amend the Hindu Religious Endowments Act 1951 Act for the purpose. Briefing news persons after the cabinet meeting, Chief Secretary Asit Tripathy said request from various quarters including the Gobardhan Math was received in this regard.
Mr.Tripathy said having regard to the pre-eminence and unique place occupied by Gobardhan Math, Puri and his holiness Srimad Jagatguru Shankaracharaya among Hindu religious institutions of the state, it was decided to amend the Odisha Hindu Religious Endowments Act 1951. He said the long pending requests received from various quarters including from the Gobardhan Math as approved by the managing Committee of the Sri Jagannath temple, the state government took the decision.
The proposed amendment shall better upkeep the religious pre-eminence of the holy shrine, the Chief Secretary said. In another decision, the cabinet approved a proposal to transfer the Aviation branch from the General Administration and Public grievance department to Transport and Commerce department.The decision was taken to bring all connectivity network through Rail, Road, Water and Air in the state under a single department to ensue better connectivity and foster regional economic growth.
