A seven decade old sentimental conundrum came to an end by the apex court’s five judge bench just within a time span of 45 minutes. A relief that was so sought after since a period which had witnessed generations from babyhood to adulthood. That was the take-away from a learned bench that showed the world that, moral equivalence has its value when it relates to people.
But, people in politics have a different value to enamour, that is deceit and making a mandate of people look ridiculous. That exactly is happening in Maharashtra, revealing what can be described as a theater of the absurd.
The two warring parties have not been able to find a middle path till now in the midst of an undulated political course that appears much more dangerous than the pot-holed tracks of Mumbai city.
What has the people witnessed in last more than two weeks is akin to an overdose of verbal brickbats lacing the political horizon of the financial capital of India. Much like a snake and the ladder game.
It was hardly imagined that the two, BJP and Shiv Sena, would fail to come in terms with a sense of tolerance and leave the voters bewildered by a kind of heedlessness the state has been rendered down to.
The present scenario is, in fact, pregnant with possibilities that could further confound the confusion as never before. News reports suggest that the Congress high command is suddenly sieges itself with a possibility to play the game changer whereas, the one time bagpiper, NCP, has reportedly got disillusioned with the Shiv Sena and has set aside any truck with the latter directly. That leaves the Congress to look for some virtue in Shiv Sena for creating a new political chemistry in India. A secular party joining hands with a party known for its pro-Hindutva posturing since Bala saheb Thackrey.
Which, according to the NCP, will be an ‘unnatural alliance’ that has to stride through a course fraught with dangers of a government’s premature fall.
Swamy blames BJP for the impasse
People of Maharashtra have not stopped in their way either by the historic Ayodhya euphoria or by the nagging political melodrama being enacted in Maharashtra. Life goes on there as usual.
What has brought the situation to such a pass. Extreme rigidity and intolerance demonstrated both by the BJP and the Sena . None other than a leader like Dr.Subramniam Swamy blames the BJP more for its adamance to play a second fiddle to Sena if the latter was so keen on forming a government and wait till its logical conclusion.
That leaves the NCP still the crucial player as the Congress cannot justify its role in supporting the Sena-led dispensation without Sarad Pawar’s backing.
Whatever, an alliance is going to be stitched with the threads of extremely unpredictable fate of a government in Maharashtra, if Sena-Sonia chemistry can really change the colours there.
The solution can at best be seen by political observers that, the current craze by the trio(Sena,Cong & NCP) to strike a solution is like administering anaesthesia on a patient where the pain becomes writhing once out of the drug’s effect.
