More than 80 people have been arrested for vandalising shops, damaging malls, restaurants and disrupting metro services at Sha Tin metro station, Hong Kong police has confirmed.
According to a statement issued by the police, 88 people had been arrested by 2330 hrs (local time) on Sunday, for offences of unlawful assembly, possession of offensive weapon, criminal damage, and using facial covering at an unlawful assembly.
The protestors committed organised destructive acts, assaulted police officers and blocked traffic in various districts of Hong Kong, the statement said, adding that the agitators vandalised shops and facilities in several malls, stormed a restaurant near Sha Tin Town Hall and damaged facilities of Sha Tin metro station.
The demonstrators even attacked the police officers, who used force to disperse the mob, Xinhua reported, quoting the police statement.
