All roads leading to Gaw Kadal in the summer capital, Srinagar, have been sealed to foil any march to mark the 29th death anniversary of over 50 people who were killed on this day in 1990 in alleged security force firing on a procession.
However, police said no restrictions have been imposed in any part of the city Monday.
Security forces have closed the road at Budshah Chowk with barbed wire and also put up a blockade to prevent people from taking out a procession.
Similarly restrictions have been imposed on Haji Masjid road, KMDA , Madina Chowk and Gaw Kadal.
Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising chairmen of both the factions of the Hurriyat Conference (HC) Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq and Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) chief Mohammad Yaseen Malik , has called for a general strike Monday in areas of Gaw Kadal, Budshah Chowk, Maisuma and adjoining localities against 1990 killings.
Shops and business establishments remained closed and traffic was off the roads in these areas.
