Omar Abdullah foresee it as challenge for Modi holding polls in J & K

Reiterating that holding timely elections in Jammu and Kashmir will be a test for the Prime Minister’s handling the situation in last five years, National Conference (NC) vice-president Omar Abdullah called it a moment of truth for Narendra Modi.

Mr Abdullah, who is the former chief minister of J&K, wondered if the Modi government will ‘bow’ before those forces of separatism and terror that have always sought to disrupt/delay polls in J&K or will polls take place on schedule.

“The moment of truth for PM Modi’s handling of Kashmir over the last 5 years,” Mr Abdullah wrote on micro-blogging site twitter.

He said barring the odd by-election, all elections after 1995-96 have taken place on schedule. “Will PM Modi be able to keep to this schedule or will he accept he’s totally mishandled J&K? The next few days will give us the answer,” he twitted.

Mr Abdullah was reacting to media reports that Election Commission (EC) was likely to announce Lok Sabha election 2019 schedule after taking final call on J&K polls on March 4-5. “J&K election dates will be decided on basis of security deployment levels-near 800 companies sought,” the reports said.
