Washington: One person was killed in a shooting at a park in the US city of Louisville in Kentucky state, police said.
According to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD), officers were dispatched to the Jefferson Square Park on a report of a shooting at around 9 p.m. on Saturday, the city-based WLKY channel said in a report.
When officers arrived they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
The police said that Sheriff’s Department personnel were in Jefferson Square Park performing life-saving measures on the male who eventually died at the scene.
The second victim was transported with non-life threatening injuries.
Jefferson Square Park has become a central location for protests in the past month. Earlier in the day, there were hundreds in the area and marching around downtown for the 31st day.
Until the shooting, LMPD said protests had been peaceful, said the WLKY report.
Responding to the shooting, Mayor Greg Fischer said it was a “tragedy that this area of peaceful protest is now a crime scene”.
