As pre-monsoon rains have failed to keep their date across the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, farming activities have taken a hit here. Three weeks of June drought have left farmers high and dry and many of them have taken roof under Mahatma Gandhi Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) works for their livelihood .
According to the Aurangabad divisional official sources, presently there are total 1,22,223 workers engaged in different types of works under the MNREGA in eight districts of Marathwada region.
Most of the works involve water conservation, roads, Jalyukat Shivar among others.
The highest 39,138 workers are engaged in drought prone Beed district followed by 21,427 in Nanded district, 20493 in Jalna district,1 1236 in Aurangabad district, 10094 in Hingoli district, 8952 in Osmanabad dustrict , 5605 in Latur district and 5278 in Parbhani district, they said.
