Govt did not issue any advt for opening of dealership of petroleum products, Min clarifies

New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) Petroleum and Natural Gas Ministry on Friday issued clarification that the government has not issued any advertisement for opening of dealership or distributorship of petroleum products. ”It has come to the notice of Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas that some unscrupulous persons, by using name and logo of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas, have issued Approval Letter for opening Gas Agency dealership/ distributorship through LPG Vitarak Kendra,” according to a ministry statement here.

Through this press release, it is clarified that Union Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, Government of India does not issue any advertisement for opening of dealership/distributorship of petroleum products, it said. It is further informed that Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas does not have any role in appointment or awarding of dealership and distributorship.

The Oil Marketing Companies, based on feasibility study, identify the locations and issue advertisement of dealers, as per the respective selection guidelines. Accordingly, general public is advised not to take notice of such advertisement or approval letter, the ministry said.

The  Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs on Wednesday has approved the ‘Review of Guidelines for Granting Authorization to market Transportation Fuels’. This marks a major reform of the guidelines for marketing of petrol and diesel. The existing policy for granting authorisation to market transportation fuels had not undergone any changes for the last 17 years since 2002.

It has now been revised to bring it in line with the changing market dynamics and with a view to encourage investment from private players, including foreign players, in this sector.
