45.77% polling in first eight hours in Bihar

At least 45.77 per cent electorate exercised their franchise till 1500 hours in five Lok Sabha constituencies, which remained largely peaceful barring an incident of police resorting to open fire in air in Amarpur assembly segment of Banka seat in Bihar during the second phase of elections.

According to the state election office, the highest 49.30 per cent voters exercised their franchise in Banka constituency followed by 48 per cent each in Kishanganj, 46 per cent each in Katihar and Purnea and 40 per cent in Bhagalpur.

Polling remained largely peaceful barring in Amarpur assembly segment of Banka Lok Sabha seat where locals alleged that Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawan had misbehaved with women voters at booth number 59 and 60 located at Ramchua Government Middle School. Locals protested the incident while police opened fire in air to control the unruly mob trying to disrupt the polling process.

Meanwhile, police said that there was no incident of misbehaving with women voters by SSB jawan as being alleged by locals. In fact, some anti social elements were trying for bogus voting in booth located at Ramchua Government Middle School and SSB jawans deployed there tried to stop them from such kind of unfair practice.
