Ranchi: Five deaths were reported in Jharkhand on Monday, taking the Covid-19 toll to 54. While four deaths — three women and one man — were reported in Jamshedpur, a 50-year-old woman died in the Garwah district.
In Jamshedpur, 11 deaths have been reported till now. Of the 54 Covid-19 victims, 23 belonged to the 61-80 age group, and 14 to 50-60 age group.
In last 24 hours, more than 210 people tested coronavirus positive, taking the tally over 5,600. As per the Health Department data, there are 2,815 active cases.
Ranchi, Hazaribagh are emerging as Covid-19 hot spots. In state capital Ranchi alone, 50-90 cases are being reported everyday.
As the Covid dedicated hospital beds are full, the district administration is gearing to set up more dedicated hospitals.
The samples are being tested at government facilities, including MGM Jamshedpur, RIMS Ranchi, PMCH Dhanbad and Itki Arogyashala Ranchi, as well as different private labs.
Jharkhand had reported first coronavirus case on March 31 as a Malaysian woman had tested Covid-19 positive. It took 67 days to reach the 1,000 mark.
But the infection’s rate of spread has accelerated with the number of cases crossing the 5,000-mark. Of this, 50 per cent was recorded in July itself.
The recovery rate in the state has fallen to 48.95 per cent. Of the 2,30,429 samples collected, 2,15,661 have been tested.
There are 5,595 people under under surveillance and asymptomatic. 4,306 people have completed 28 days of compulsory observation. There are 7,869 people at quarantine facilities and 2,72,932 in home isolation.
