New Delhi: The Delhi government has directed the police and district magistrates to taking action against landlords forcing migrant workers or students to pay rents immediately, amid the lockdown.
Speaking to IANS, a government official said an order has been issued taking forward a similar order issued on March 29.
The April 22 order said that if any landlord forced students or migrants to pay rents immediately or warn them of eviction, they can be booked under Disaster Management Act, 2005.
The new order directs the District Magistrates to “undertake awareness campaigns on this issue particularly in areas having higher density of workers, migrants or students, to advise affected persons to lodge complaints to the police control room by calling 100.”
It also said that from April 27, the district Deputy Commissioners of Police will submit a weekly report of such complaints and action taken to the DMs on every Monday.
