The list of constituencies identified by most of the parties showed the two dravidian majors–the ruling AIADMK and the Opposition DMK–would be involved in a direct right in eight of the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu in the next month Lok Sabha polls. Both the AIADMK and the DMK would be contesting in 20 seats each as part of the seat sharing agreement finalised by them with their respective allies. The AIADMK won 37 seats in the 2014 polls and the DMK drew a blank. The AIADMK would be involved in a direct fight with DMK’s key ally, the Congress in five seats, while it would come face to face with CPI in two seats. The AIADMK was pitted against KMDK, MDMK, IJK, CPI(M) AND VCK in the other five seats. The list also showed that the AIADMK’s ally BJP would be involved in a direct fight with Congress in Kanniyakumari, at present held by Union Minister Pon Radhakrishnan and Sivaganga, which had returned veteran Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram to Lok Sabha on seven occasions.
