A pilgrim from Gujarat died during pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas in the wee hours on Wednesday, a yatra official said.
He said a yatri, identified as Babubhai R Panara, resident of Ahmedabad, Gujarat, died at Baltal base camp in the wee hours today. The cause of his death was being ascertained, he said.
With this, a total of 21 pilgrims besides two sevadars and as many security force personnel deployed on yatra duty en route the cave have died so far since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage to holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas from July 1. Majority deaths occurred due to cardiac arrest. About 30 yatris and others have also suffered injuries due to shooting stones and other causes during the pilgrimage.
So far, record number of 2.95 lakh pilgrims have already paid obeisance at the Amarnath holy cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas, which is more than the total number of pilgrims who underwent the pilgrimage in 2018.
