Andaman’s Shaheed Dweep to get modern Passenger Hall for domestic and International tourists

The Andaman and Nicobar Administration is presently constructing a new state-of-the-art passenger hall at Shaheed Dweep’s port area to provide better service to growing number of domestic and international tourists. Shaheed Dweep is one of the must-go Islands of Andaman and Nicobar Chain for all visiting Tourists. Talking to media the Director, Shipping Services of Andaman and Nicobar Islands and the Chief Port Administrator, Capt. Ashutosh Pandey said the passenger hall will be better than any Airport with all modern facilities.

“Within six to eight months it will be done. We are also extending the length of Shaheed Dweep Jetty and after December we will also start night ferry service too. These will be unmatchable facilities and we will also put security machines, x-ray machines and there will be deployment of Security people to control the crowd,” Captain Pandey said.

He added that weather has slightly disrupted the work but the Andaman Habour Works (AHW) is working full time to complete the project. “We are demolishing the present canteen. We are looking at some options to provide Air Conditioners but because of power shortage and other limitations we will make the passenger hall airy and well ventilated. It will be state-of-the-art because it will send a message and people from all over the world come to Shaheed Dweep and they go back with feedback,” the Director added.

Since a long time Panchayati Raj Institute Members of the Island have been demanding for a proper passenger hall at Shaheed Dweep and this new development will bring some relief for them. “This is sad to note that Shaheed Dweep gets tourists from all over the world but at the Port there is no shed for passengers and tourists. During rain all have to take shelter under trees, which sends a very wrong signal across the world,” Ramkrishna Biswas the Pradhan of Shaheed Dweep told media. (UNI)
