Angry villagers have set ablaze as many as eight vehicles and one office belonging to an accused driver whose dumper hit a retired school peon killing him on the spot on Saturday.
Alleging that it was planned murder the relatives of the deceased and villagers set fire to 4 dumpers, one JCBs, 2 tractors and one car besides the office of the accused driver late last night.
The deceased identified as Sashikanta Das (62), of village Dahunda under Bhograi block was a retired school peon and is uncle of accused Ghanashyam Das (40).
Police said on Saturday evening while Sashikanta was returning to his home in a bicycle from market he was hit by a dumper driven by Ghanashyam from rear resulting his instant death .
Although fire tenders rushed to spot to douse the flame but property worth over lakhs completely gutted in the fire.
Sub divisional police officer of Jaleswar, Sudharshan Dash along with IIC Kamarda Pasacal Ekka and IIC Bhograi Narendra Das had rushed to the village with two platoons of force to control the tense situation prevailing in the area.
They had a very tough time to pacify the situation and tackle the violent mob who were demanding immediate arrest of the accused.
Dash said the accused had fled from the village along with his family after the incident. The situation in the village is however, under control, he claimed.
Police said, there has been serious acrimony between the deceased and the accused over civil disputes relating to family property which is also known to the fellow villagers.
