Army team rescues 250 people stranded due to floods in Raichur District

An Army team comprising of 100 soldiers have rescued 250 people who were stranded in flood affected Raichur District where the situation continued to be grim since last one week. The Krishna Bhagaya Jala Nigam source on Wednesday said that as many as 4.4 lakh cusec water is being released to the Krishna river from Basava Sagar reservoir from Narayanpur dam.

Shakatinagar Tahsildar Hampanna, in Raichur District, said that precautionary measures have been taken in the river basin areas as there is heavy downpour leading to increase of water level in the river. Necessary arrangements have been made for the Army team at District Training Centre. Three team were formed and deployed in the flood affected in Raichur, LIngasugaur and Devaduraga Taluks.

He said that Six residents from Davadagaddi (farmhouse), five from Omkaragaddi and 18 from Mydaragaddi islands in Lingsugur taluk, followed by 30 from Myadarala and 140 from Gugal bridge area in Deodurg taluk and one from Ramgaddi temple in Raichur taluk were rescued since last 15 hours .

Offical sources told UNI that as many as 30 people were rescued from Mydarala islands and they were shifted to Hosamyadarala village.And, 140 people
who were rescued from Gugal bridge area were shifted to a safer place in Gugal village and 18 persons rescued from Mydaragaddi island were shifted to a government school at Yaragodi where they were given food. In all, six islands — three each in Raichur and Lingsugur taluks — have been severely affected by the floods in the Krishna river and residents were forced to stay on the islands till the authorities could reach them with food and life jackets.

The road connectivity between Sheelahalli and Hanchinal, Deodurg and Shahapur still remained cut off as the bridges across the Krishna remained submerged.
The Yaragodi bridge is also on the verge of getting submerged. As many as 492 hectares of farmland in the district has been damaged by floods.

Irrigation Department sources said that the threat of flash flood looms large in villages of Afzalpur, Jewargi and Kalaburagi taluks of Kalaburagi district which are on the bank of Bhima River. The inflow to the Sonna barrage is 36 ,000 cusses from Ujani dam and Veer dam of Maharashtra and the same quantity of water is being released to Bhima River. The storing capacity of Sonna bridge cum barrage is 3.1 TMC and as of now 2.6 TMC water is in the storage.
