Assam will soon come up with an agricultural policy which will mainly focus on doubling farmers income, demarcating agriculture land in the state, Minister for Agriculture Atul Bora said today. “We have prepared a draft policy, which will be put for approval in the assembly in the coming session,” Mr Bora said adding that the policy will give impetus to enhancing farmers income in the state.
Mr Bora informed that various agricultural central and state schemes like Soil Health Card, Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana etc have been successfully implemented in the state in last three years. He informed that the total foodgrain production in the state have risen from 53.98 metric tones from 2014-15 to 55.26 lakh metric tones. Under Fasal Bima Yojana 2.15 lakh farmers have been enrolled and an amount Rs 6.46 crore has been given to farmers for loss of crop due to natural calamities.
Giving details of World Bank financed Assam Agribusiness and Rural Transformation Project, Mr Bora the project worth Rs 1700 crore is under implementation and field trials are on in areas such as climate resilient market led production, pre and post harvest machine etc. (UNI)
