Puducherry Lt Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday flagged off a ‘Stand Up Paddle Rally’ at a Puducherry beach, which was organised by the Covelong Point Surfing School, Kovalam. According to a Raj Nivas release, the rally, sponsored by the T T Krishnamachari Group, was focusing on the clean up of Ocean from Puducherry beach to Kovalam Beach (Tamilnadu) covering 120 kilometers. Fifteen surfers, including two girls, participated in the rally. Bedi later, advised the organisers to involve children, especially, from fishermen community in the surfing and to organise such a rally for children next Sunday to enable, create enthusiasm and confidence among them.
She also emphasized to open a separate school of surfing in Puducherry and to name it as ‘Puducherry school of Surfing for Children’ and to train them in surfing and other water sports so as to prepare them for the national and international competitions. She also assured to obtain the support of the ministry of sports and fishermen welfare for setting up such a surfing school. (UNI)
