Bengal Guv urges Mamata to end Covid-19 data cover-up

Kolkata: West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar on Saturday once again criticised the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress government for not maintaining transparency in releasing the Covid-19 data.

The Governor tweeted: “Give up Covid-19 data cover up operation and share it transparently.”

Dhankhar also criticised the state government for not releasing the medical bulletin on May 1.

He said that according to the health bulletin released on April 30, the total number of Covid-19 cases stood at 572 while the central government’s figures of total cases were 931.

“Gap between 572 and 931 not reconcilable even if recovered or dead are considereda Coordination lack (is) awful when people are suffering untold miseries,” the Governor tweeted, slamming the State administration.

The Trinamool Congress-led West Bengal government has mostly been at loggerhead with Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar since he assumed charge last year.

Reacting to the Governor’s tweet, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state secretary Dilip Ghosh said the state government is trying to hide the real Covid-19 scenario in Bengal.

“When the whole nation is fighting Coronavirus, here Mamata Banerjee is fighting the Governor at a time when hundreds of people are dying of Civid-19. I don’t understand why is she doing so. Common people are actually suffering due to this. There is a huge mismatch between the figures realised by the Centre and the state government,” Ghosh said.
