A BJP delegation led by Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh called on Governor KN Tripathi and sought his intervention to convince the Union Home ministry and Election Commission to understand the gravity in post-poll violence in Bengal, especially at .Kakinara under Barrackpore division where many families deserted homes for safety of their lives.
Kakinara, a segment of Bhatpara assembly seat under North 24 Parganas has been boiling since May 19, the day of bypoll, as the miscreants unleashed a reign of terror among the residents since fighting broke out between the TMC and BJP men on Sunday. Section 144 cr pc has been clamped but the miscreants continued to rule the area creating a reign of terror and disrupted train services during mornings on Monday and Tuesday.
About 15 people have been injured when the miscreants threw stones and charged bombs on the commuters while an EMU was stranded at Kakinara station after its track was blocked by felling iron grills. BJP leader Arjun Singh, a candidate for Barrakpore Lok Sabha poll, has demanded deployment of Army with immediate effect for the safety of life and property. He alleged the TMC goons from Kamarhati have been looting and the local police remained a mute spectator. TMC candidate for Bhatpara assembly segment Madan Mitra demanded restoration of rule or else ” man will rule the area”.
He accused the BJP goons have been attacking the TMC supporters. He said they have complained with the DM to restore the rule of law or else the people will take up the matter. BJP state president Dilip Ghosh said they have apprised the matter to the Governor saying the TMC fearing a defeat in the Lok Sabha election may create trouble. He said the Election Commission has agreed to retain the central armed forces until May 27
but ” We insisted the central should remain in the state until the situation is restored.” He claimed Kakinara and parts of Diamond Harbour have been witnessing fights among the community and many have left the areas for safety. Mr Ghosh also threatened retaliatory action if his party supporters came under attacks by the ruling party.
