The counting of ballots of three-tire panchayat poll, which was begun on Wednesday has not yet been completed but the result indicated the landslide victory of BJP in village panchayat, panchayat samity and Zilla Prasad.
According to state election commissioner G K Rao, the counting of ballot has been continuing till this morning in Kadamtala and Panisagar rural development blocks of North Tripura and Gournagar block of Unokoti district. Except a few stray incidents of violence between BJP supporters and Congress, the process was by and large peaceful, Rao said. He said so far result of 668 seats of village panchayats was declared out of 833 where election had held and ruling BJP secure 519 seats followed by Congress in 121 and CPI (M) won 18 seats. The BJP’s ally in the government Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) won six seats while independent captured four seats in the lowest tire.
In case of 82 panchayat samity seats where poll was held, ruling BJP captured 63 seats and six by Congress and one Independent so far while all the 74 declared seats of 79 Zilla Parisad where 72 BJP and two by Congress. Earlier, out of the total 6646 seats of three-tire panchayats ruling BJP has won over 85 percent count 5652 seats unopposed. While BJP is contested 833 seats of 6111 in village panchayat, Congress fought in 612, CPI (M) in 396 and BJP’s ally IPFT fought 37 seats.
In case of Panchayat Samity, ruling BJP won 337 of 419 seats without contest and in remaining 82 seats BJP had fielded candidates in all while CPI (M) fought in 56, CPI one, Congress 60 and IPFT in two seats. Similarly, in 116 seats of Zilla Parisad, ruling BJP won 37 seats unopposed and fought for remaining 79 seats. However, CPI (M) fielded candidates for 67 seats, Congress fielded candidates in 63 seats and IPFT in two seats.
According to report, seven persons were injured in clash between BJP and Congress during counting. (UNI)
