Catholic Church withheld names of 500 Illinois priests accused of child abuse – Illinois

(UNI) A preliminary report prepared by Lisa Madigan, the attorney general of the US state of Illinois, has found that at least 500 priests accused of child abuse in the state are yet to be publicly identified by Catholic Church officials.
“While the six dioceses in Illinois have now publicly identified 185 clergy members as having been ‘credibly’ accused of child sexual abuse, Madigan’s investigation has found that the dioceses have received allegations of sexual abuse of at least 500 additional priests and clergy members in Illinois,” the press statement said.
The report, in particular, slammed the Catholic dioceses that govern parishes in the state for their flawed investigations and lack of transparency.
