'Citizens are not safe', Robert Vadra connects security breach at Priyanka's home with women safety

New Delhi, Dec 3: A day after the reports emerged on an alleged security breach at Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s Delhi residence, her husband and businessman Robert Vadra on Tuesday took on the Union government and alleged that “security throughout the country is compromised”.

Taking to Facebook and the Twitter, Vadra said that he is not talking about the security for Priyanka, his children or him or Gandhi family, but all the citizens of the country, especially women.

“It is not about the security for Priyanka, my daughter and son or me or the Gandhi family. It’s about keeping our citizens especially the women of our country, safe and feeling secure”, Mr Vadra said. “Security throughout the country is compromised. Girls are being molested, raped, what society are we creating”, he asked.

Priyanka’s husband also said that security of every citizen is the government’s responsibility. “If we are not safe in our own country, our homes, not safe on roads, not safe in the day or not at night, where and when are we safe?”, he further said. Vadra’s comments came a day after news reports that a security breach occurred at Ms Priyanka’s residence at high security area in Lodhi Road.

According to Congress sources, in last week some persons entered the residence premises in an SUV without prior appointment and sought to take selfie with Ms Priyanka. Five persons managed to enter the gate of her house and they were later stopped by the security agencies, the sources said.

The alleged incident happened a week after the Narendra Modi government had removed the cover of Special Protection Group (SPG) for the Gandi-Nehru family, after the revision of threat perception. Sonia Gandhi,  Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra are under Z+ security cover by the CRPF.

Successive Union governments had provided SPG protection for the Gandhi-Nehru family members after former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was assassinated in 1991 by the Sri Lankan terror group LTTE.
