Congress criticizes Prime Minister for not announcing relief to Flood victims

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President Dinesh Gundu Rao today criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for not uttering any words on providing financial assistance from the Center to the flood victims, during his two-day visit to Karnataka. Speaking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said that the Prime Minister despite knowing the plights of over ten lakh flood victims in the State did not spare any time to speak and submit a memorandum. Stating that the Prime Minister’s office had not respond to the KPCC’s appeal seeking time to meet Narendra Modi and explain the situation, the KPCC President said that “Prime Minister should have reviewed the situation by holding a meeting with the Chief Minister, Revenue Minister and Chief Secretary and announce financial assistance to the State”. Maintaining that even the ruling BJP leaders in the State also failed to brief the Prime Minister on heavy damage taken place in the State in the recent floods and rains, the KPCC president charged that the State BJP leaders including Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa have lost any guts to speak to the Prime Minister on flood situation in the State.

“It seems Chief Minister has lost his voice to speak to the Prime Minister”, he added. Gundurao alleged that by not uttering any word on the plights of the flood victims, Modi has exhibited that he has no sympathy and respect to those who were displaced from their homes and lost everything. He said that despite Prime Minister’s rejection to KPCC’s appeal seeking time to meet Narendra Modi, a memorandum would be sent to Union government urging the Center to declare the flood destruction as ‘National calamity’. The Center would also be urged to announce crop compensation to the farmers and construction of new houses, who had lost their homes in the floods, he added.
