Gandhinagar: The Congress in Gujarat will hold protest demonstrations on Friday across the state against the BJP government at the Centre, which the party alleged is adamant on holding the Joint Entrance Exams (JEE) and the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) against students wishes amid the coronavirus pandemic.
The Gujarat Congress will holding protests at all party headquarters in all districts of Gujarat against the imposition of JEE and NEET exams on students during the pandemic as corona cases are on the rise.
The local units of Congress will also hold protests at central government offices and institutions at 11 am on Friday, demanding the postponement of both exams and also the fee waiver for 6 months during the pandemic.
“Exams should not be conducted risking the lives of the students. When the corona cases were 525 in the country you had the entire country under lockdown, shutting down schools and colleges. Today, when there are 33 lakh corona positive cases, you are adamant on holding the exams. It is the responsibility of the government to ensure that the students lives are not played with and they should postpone the exams,” Amit Chavda, GPCC president, told IANS.
“Tomorrow the Congress party will be staging protest demonstrations demanding the postponement of the JEE and NEET exams in the country, at all our district headquarters and in front of the central government offices in Gujarat,” added Chavda.
According to the National Students Union of India (NSUI), there are 80,000 students enrolled for the NEET and 38,000 students for JEE exams in Gujarat.
