India’s first full-term Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting her maiden budget in Parliament on Friday batted for women power, stressing that country’s tradition has been ‘Nari tuh Narayani’.
”The government has moved from being ‘women-centric to women-led’ initiatives, said Ms Sitharaman emphasising on greater women participation in country’s progress.
”We have record 78 women MPs in this House. This enforces our approach of going beyond women-centric policies to women led initiatives,” she said.
This government believes we can make progress with greater women participation, she said, adding that the government wishes to encourage and facilitate role of women.
”Country’s tradition has been ‘Nari tuh Narayani’ (Woman, you are Goddess). The role of women in the rural sector is very sweet,” she said.
